Championship leaders Sheffield Wednesday are expecting no red carpet carpet from the Millwall faithful when they travel to The Den this weekend.

Neil Harris’s men host the Owls on Saturday looking for their second home win of the season after their opening day win over Preston North End.

With a new buzz of optimism for the new season around South Bermondsey, backed-up with an impressive point at West Brom, the home support was described by captain Alex Pearce as ‘rocking,’ a factor Wednesday’s caretaker boss Lee Bullen will have to cope with.

“It is what it is, you deal with it and we know what we’re going to come up against on that front,” he told the Sheffield Star.

“I think the substitutes like warming up on the side of the pitch, there are usually some pretty choice words shouted there, but you expect that.

“Big Atdhe and Boydy got plenty last year, but if you’re warming up on the side of the pitch with a ponytail then quite often you’re a target!”

“They’re supporters that are just desperate for their team to have success, just like our supporters are and they’re quite vociferous in their comments, but it’s all fun and games.

“I’m sure I’ll get a little bit as well.

"They’ve got a reputation for a reason but a lot of it is tongue in cheek. We’ll handle it.”

Wednesday have notched victories over Reading and Barnsley in their opening two fixtures, and their confidence will be boosted by the return of experienced midfielder Barry Bannan who has returned from injury.

Wednesday’s trip to SE16 is their first on a weekend in 13 years, which is a welcome bonus for in-form striker Steven Fletcher who doesn’t have fond memories of previous visits.

“I have only been down there once,” he said.

“It was a Tuesday night, freezing cold, the pitch wasn’t the best. It wasn’t a good experience.”
