A charity which provides surplus food to 33 frontline groups tackling food poverty across the city said at least 1,600 children accessed meals every week.

FareShare Glasgow & West Scotland, which is run by the charity Move On, supports children at risk of going without food when the schools break up and the safety net of free school meals is removed.

Scott Crawford, project manager, said: “For parents of children who normally receive free school meals, the summer can be a really difficult time - with the strain of added food costs, activities and childcare leaving many families struggling to provide food.

“With the support of our food partners, we’re grateful we were able to provide more support to frontline charities tackling holiday hunger than before.”
