How do you fancy swimming between the rooftops in Wandsworth? Sounds crazy, right?

But plans for a new 25-metre pool between two residential buildings in Nine Elms have just been released, and they would let residents do just that.

Designed to look more like an aquarium than a pool, the Sky Pool is entirely transparent and will connect the decks of two residential buildings, which also feature a spa, a summer bar and an orangery for residents to relax and take in views of London.

It will float 10 storeys above the ground and allow residents of Embassy Gardens to swim above the busy city below.

The new pool is expected to open next summer, but this ambitious project by developer Ecoworld Ballymore is going to prove a real challenge for architects and engineers.

It is made from acrylic and is currently undergoing tests and treatments in Colorado before it is shipped to the UK.

But even its arrival could prove a challenge due to its large size.

Traffic lights and bollards will need to be taken down if the pool arrives by road, while some roads will have to be closed for the day if it arrives by river to make sure it is lifted from the Thames safely.

Sean Mulryan, chairman and group chief executive at Ballymore said the pool “will feel like floating through air in central London.”

“The vision for the Sky Pool stemmed from a desire to push the boundaries in the capability of construction and engineering, to do something that had never been done before. The Sky Pool’s transparent structure is the result of significant advancements in technologies over the last decade. The experience of the pool will be truly unique.”
