"Dear parents and carers, we wanted to let you know that we are giving this message to all students today," the letter begins.

"The police have contacted the school to say that they have had reports that a woman is regularly targeting school children outside Sutton train station.

"The report said that two girls in uniform were seen going to the cash point with her. They both withdrew money which they handed over to her."

The letter continued by added that the person gives various stories in an effort "to get sympathy."

Police have advised students not to respond and instead walk away if they are approached for money.

"If you are worried go into the train station or the nearest shop and tell a member of staff."
