It is a decision that has been coming ever since developers were given the go-ahead in March to demolish Wandsworth's B&Q and replace it with flats.

That decision being 'when to close the store for good'.

Now the DIY company have revealed the exact date when the store will close.

In response to a query from the Wandsworth Times, divisional director south for B&Q, Joe Orlando said: “B&Q is committed to our customers in the Wandsworth area, we’re very sorry to be closing the Wandsworth store on Saturday, October 12 and we send our sincere apologies to Wandsworth customers.

"We have stores in nearby Chiswick, West Norwood and New Malden and we look forward to welcoming our local customers there.”

The approved application for the Smugglers Way site will see the demolition of the B&Q depot and the construction of 13 tower blocks ranging from 8 to 15 storeys.

In total 517 homes, restaurants, shops and parking spaces will be built on the site.
