The BBC Radio 1Xtra Live show had to be cut short after a man – who is thought to be Gypsy Hill resident ‘Krept,’ from the rap duo ‘Krept & Konan’, was attacked.

According to reports the rapper – who’s real name is Casyo Johnson, attended the show at the Arena Birmingham on October 5, which also featured Afro Beats artists Wizkid, UK rapper Aitch and Latino R’n’B singer DaniLeigh.

In a tweet posted this morning at 10:22am the 29-year-old said: “My people thanks for the messages I’m good, I’ll be back in no time.

“God was with me trust me.

“Can’t keep a good man down.”

West Midlands Police confirmed that they had spoken with security at the venue who confirmed that an assault had taken place at around 10pm on October 5, and that the victim had suffered a slash wound that did not require hospital treatment.

And BBC Radio 1Xtra released a statement which read: "Following an isolated serious incident, we have had to stop 1Xtra Live in Birmingham.

"We are co-operating fully with the police to establish what has happened.

"We're sorry to everyone who attended 1Xtra Live in Birmingham for the early finish; however, the health and safety of everyone involved is always our top priority.

"We are upset and saddened that something like this should happen to a guest at one of our events and we remain in close contact and continue to offer our full support."

However, some people have criticised BBC Radio 1Xtra for failing to protect artists backstage.

@jasmine_Buetie wrote: “Krept got stabbed backstage, who was allowed backstage without being searched wdf and why would u even want to stab krept.”

And @_Henryn9 tweeted: “How can Krept get stabbed backstage, what kinda dumb security is that.”

BBC 1Xtra released a further statement this morning which confirmed that they would be working with West Midlands Police to establish how the ‘isolated incident,’ happened.
