An expert in the field of preventing domestic abuse will be joined by a forensic criminologist in Wandsworth, to speak about the prevention of domestic homicide.

The session has been organised jointly by the Richmond and Wandsworth Community Safety Partnerships, where residents can hear from two of the UK’s leading domestic violence experts who will help residents to be able to recognise abuse.

Frank Mullane MBE, founder of ‘Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse,’ which supports reviews into domestic homicide and specialist peer support, will be joined by University of Gloucester lecturer, Jane Monckton-Smith, who specialises in criminal investigations, forensic investigations, and issues in public protection.

Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said: “Domestic abuse shatters lives, and we are determined to ensure that victims always have the support they need to ensure their safety and the safety of any children.

“The Council and local organisations have been working extremely hard to tackle the issues of domestic violence.”

The session will consist of presentations from both experts and there will be an opportunity to learn about Homicide Reviews.

The event comes as part of a project which is aimed at updating the cross borough ‘Violence Against Women and Girls’ strategy, which is designed to tackle issues affecting people who experience domestic violence and abuse, sexual violence, female genital mutilation, ‘honour-based’ violence, forced marriages, stalking and harassment.

The session on November 8 starts at 9.30am and will run until 3pm at the Wandsworth Civic Suite in Wandsworth.
