WINCHESTER Football Club has teamed up with the city's Business Improvement District (BID) to provide 80 parking spaces for commuters.

Spaces at the Simplyhealth City Ground in Hillier Way will cost £99 a month – with the first 40 cars receiving a 25 per cent discount.

They are a short walk through River Park to the city centre, and the scheme aims to alleviate the stress of commuters trying to find a space in December.

Club chairman, Elliott Trodd said: "A monthly parking pass for £99 is a stress-free solution for businesses to ensure their staff can park easily, safely and cheaply during December whilst raising much-needed funds for Winchester FC.

"It’s also a great way to stretch your legs before work and could reduce traffic jams."

The influx of visitors and Christmas shoppers in the run up to the festive season can often cause parking and traffic problems in the city.

Paul Spencer, executive director at the BID said: "Winchester BID is very pleased to support this initiative which will provide additional parking provision for businesses in the city during the busy festive season while also helping to raise funds for Winchester FC."

The spaces will be available from 7am to 7pm, weekdays throughout December.
