The M25 has been completely shut after a lorry caught on fire.

Police have closed the road in both directions at Junction 24 to deal with the incident, which began at around 5pm.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area, as queues of more than five miles develop.

A spokesperson from the Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "There's a large lorry fire on the M25 and the road is closed in both directions at junction 24 Potters Bar.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.

"We were called at 5pm and several fire engines are currently on the scene."
