Three Wandsworth killers who fatally attacked an UberEats delivery driver over his scooter have been found guilty of his murder and manslaughter.

A 16 and 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, along with 19-year-old Jadan Richards attacked Iderval Da Silva when they saw an opportunity to steal his moped on May 28, 2019.

Today (January 2) the 16-year-old and Richards were found guilty of murder after a trial at the Old Bailey. The 17-year-old was found guilty of manslaughter. They will be sentenced on February 5.

Iderval, 46, was having lunch with friends in Primo’s Café on Charlotte Despard Road, Battersea.

His moped was parked 30 feet from where he sat. Seeing the 16-year-old sitting on his bike, Mr Da Silva went to stop him from stealing it.

The teenager put up a fight and the two others joined him, punching and kicking the victim to the ground. The moped itself was also pushed onto Mr Da Silva, landing on his head during the daylight attack.

Neurosurgeons who later assessed Iderval found that he had a catastrophic and untreatable bleed on the brain as a result of the violence inflicted on him.

Wandsworth Times:

Sally-Anne Russell, from the CPS, said: “This is a tragic case of a man who died trying to protect his property. However, faced with the youths he was outnumbered.

“Witnesses watched on in horror as the unprovoked attack unfolded. They rushed to Mr Da Silva’s aid after the attackers fled, but the level of violence was such that a few days later Mr Da Silva died from his injuries.

“This was a senseless loss of life. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Da Silva.”
