Aldi is set to celebrate the opening of its new Thamesmead store next week.

The store is set to open at 8 am on January 30, in Central Way.

The first 30 customers will receive a complimentary bag of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Aldi’s legendary special buys will be available every Thursday and Sunday, offering cheap value on a wide range of products.

The store will have an exclusive section for beauty products, a 'food to go' section and a large section for alcohol.

Gold Medallist, Tom Ransley is set to cut the ribbon on opening morning.

Aldi Store Manager, Brett Kavanah-Early, said:

“We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store on Central Way.

“It’s set to be a special day as we’ll be celebrating the opening of Aldi’s first store in the area and having Olympic hero, Tom Ransley, join us will make it a morning to remember.”

Rowing star, Tom Ransley, said:

“I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store, it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its endless support of Team GB.”

Local charities and food banks will be able to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform.

The platform links businesses to charitable organisations in their community, to receive regular donations of food from the supermarket.

Local charities that register will be able to collect food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, up to five days a week.

Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store can email aldi@neighbourly.com.

The store will open 8 am to 10 pm, Monday to Saturday.

10 am to 4 pm on Sundays.
