Around 40 firefighters were at the the scene of a "major" fire at a derelict warehouse near Clapham today (January 24).

A large plume of smoke was visible from the fire, which was first reported at around 1pm this afternoon in Clapham Road, near Oval Station.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said six fire engines are on the scene, but no injuries were reported.

A spokesman said: "Part of the ground floor was damaged by the blaze. A man left the property before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

"The Brigade was called at 1301 and the fire was under control by 1436.

"Fire crews from Lambeth, Old Kent Road, Clapham, Dowgate, Dockhead and Chelsea fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation."
