A tutoring company that combines language classes with children and the elderly have launched a new campaign to battle loneliness in the self-isolation period.

‘Generations 1, 2, 3' is a new campaign launched by Lingotot Bexley which aims to connect the elderly and children.

Lingotot Bexley says visitor numbers at care homes have already dropped since the coronavirus outbreak and have had to sadly suspend their joint 'generation' language classes due to the outbreak.

The campaign includes three simple steps:

  • Asking children to draw pictures and write letters to neighbours and residents at Bexley care homes.
  • To make video messages and email them to care homes where they can be shared with residents.
  • To help identify elderly neighbours and post a note through their door with their contact details.

Sarah Canavan, pioneer of 'Lingotot generations' said: “Connections are being made in our classes, and one lovely resident even has a photo of one of the children in her room.

“I know the children and residents will miss each other very much.

"I believe these small steps will help the elderly feel less lonely in this very scary time.

“It will be amazing for children to share what they are up to with their elders.

“This needs to be a long-term project and something I hope to see continuing for many months, if not longer."

Angela Sterling, Founder of Lingotot said: “It is vital that we support each other as a community and stay connected despite the challenging circumstances."

The company has a downloadable template on their website that people can use to post through neighbours doors.
