SOUTH London is set for a four-day weekend as the city celebrates Easter - but it'll be a far cry from years gone by.

Instead of flocking to the beach, green spaces and friends' gardens across the city, peope are once again being urged to stay at home.

Amid the coronavirus crisis, London will mark the Easter break with more low-key celebrations, amid a sombre and sobering atmosphere.

This past weekend saw police officers reinforce messages of social distancing and isolation amid the coronavirus lockdown.

As the Covid-19 crisis continues, cops were forced to disperse gatherings who brazenly met to flout government guidance.

Ahead of the forthcoming weekend, the Met Office has once again issued its weather forecast, after temperatures rose last Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend, the temptation to head outside will remain apparent - but the weather won't be as glorious as last weekend.

The Met Office predicts: "There is the chance of a shower. Friday and Saturday will be cloudier with showers or some longer spells of rain. Cooler Saturday."

The forecast reads well for Friday and Saturday, with clear skies and sunny spells and the mercury reaching 21C.

Sunday will see the mercury drop down to 16C, and just 12C on Monday, with rainy spells predicted by meteorologists.

A statement on the Met Office website also reminds the public about current guidelines.

It reads: "Easter weekend will mark the start of a changing pattern to cooler weather for many of us.

"Whatever the weather over the long holiday weekend we are all being urged to remember the Government guidelines to stay at home.

"Do not go out to meet others, even friends or family, as it is possible to spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.

"Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home), always stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people and wash your hands as soon as you return home."
