Tooting: McDonald's reveals full list of first UK restaurants to reopen for delivery

The fast-food chain shut down all of its sites in March at the start of the coronavirus lockdown, but now the first wave of restaurants are reopening for deliveries only.

Last Friday, McDonald's announced it would reopen 15 unnamed restaurants after spending a week testing its operations behind closed doors.

Today the list has been revealed, with the Tooting branch representing the only site in south London, although more are expected to follow in the coming weeks.

The stores are clustered around London and the South East - Two of the sites are in Chelmsford: Riverside and Westway, while three are in Luton at Leagrave, Chaul End Lane and George Street.

Tooting and the other 14 branches will offer a limited menu, including some vegetarian options, delivered within their local areas to customer's doors using Just Eat and Uber Eats.

The stores will be open from Wednesday next week, May 13, to make deliveries between 11 am and 10 pm, with staff, asked to be extra careful about social distancing measures.

Before they open, the restaurants will undergo deep-cleaning with floor markings and Perspex screens installed.

"When we return it will be different as we all adjust to this new normal.

"I want to apologise in advance if our first wave of reopened restaurants does not serve your area," McDonald's UK boss Paul Pomroy said last week.

"Rest assured, we are working hard to reopen more restaurants, but I am adamant this must be at the right pace with the wellbeing of our employees, suppliers and customers front of mind."
