An online community radio station is making the jump to DAB Digital Radio this August, bringing news, music and events from the heart of South London to listeners’ homes.

From Saturday (August 1), over a million people across Richmond, Wandsworth, Merton and Lambeth can tune into Riverside Radio via their digital radio device or car.

The radio station – which started out in 2015 as Wandsworth Radio – rebranded last year to reach the neighbouring boroughs, where it formed a core audience.

However, over lockdown the station saw a wave of new listeners, as it became a platform to showcase the work of local charities and services.

The Wandsworth Arts Fringe, which was cancelled in May, broadcast parts of its annual festival on Riverside Radio.

The station’s Managing Director, Jason Rosam, says he is enthusiastic about the talent coming out of South West London.

“Riverside Radio works to instil a sense of civic pride by helping residents engage with local businesses, services and our huge local arts and culture offerings, all of which are sometimes overlooked due to our proximity to central London."

“When you switch on Riverside Radio, you’ll be switching on South West London with shows designed to reflect all parts of the diverse community.”

Made up of a team of over 200 volunteers, he says the station can also provide a path for those hoping to enter the broadcast industry.

Rosam, who presents the early breakfast show across the BBC Local Radio network, added:

“We have become a vital resource for young people who want to gain skills in a live broadcast environment as presenters, journalists or those behind the scenes, with so many of our volunteers going on to achieve successful employment at the BBC and commercial broadcasters.”

You will be able to listen to Riverside Radio on DAB from Saturday 1st August at 7am. The station is always available online at RiversideRadio.com or by asking smart speakers to “Play Riverside Radio”.
