A former Cardiff City footballer has denied stabbing another man in an altercation in Putney last September.

Ibrahim Meite, 23, of Roehampton, pleaded not guilty to a number of charges at a hearing at Kingston Crown Court on Monday.

He is accused of possessing a bladed article in public, wounding with intent and the unlawful wounding of Rio Amos, a 22-year-old from Wandsworth.

Meite, who attended the court in person, is a 6 ft 1 in footballer who has previously played for Cardiff and Crawley Town as a forward.

Amos, who appeared via video link, was also charged with unlawful wounding, wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article, and pleaded not guilty to all three counts.

The incident took place on Ulva Road in Putney on September 12, 2019, the court heard.

The pair had previously been given unconditional bail due to the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus lockdown.

But Judge Sarah Plaschkes QC said there was "clearly some animosity" between the defendants and ordered that neither man contact the other directly or indirectly.

A provisional date for the trial has been set for February 22, 2021.
