Police have cordoned off Plumstead High Street and Heron Hill after a man was fatally stabbed this morning.

Residents have described a significant police presence in the area this morning, following the incident today (August 21).

Emergency services were initially called to Heron Hill at around 6.20am to reports of a man with stab injuries.

On arrival, a man was found with serious injuries and was transferred to Plumstead High Street, where air-ambulance paramedics treated him.

Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of 10.45am, no details had been released about the identity of the victim or any potential suspects.

A statement from Met Police confirmed that the incident is not currently being treated as a murder.

A spokesman said: "Police were called to Heron Hill Road, Belvedere, at 06.18hrs on Friday, 21 August by London Ambulance Service to a report of a man with stab injuries.

"Officers attended. A man was found seriously injured.

"The man was transported a short distance by ambulance to Plumstead High Street, where paramedics from the air ambulance treated him.

"Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died shortly after 07.00hrs.

"A crime scene has been put in place.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace his next of kin."
