An Earlsfield based hockey club has welcomed the victory of their Boys Under 18s team at national championship level.
Spencer Hockey Club, which trains at Fieldview, Earlsfield were crowned winners of the the Hockey Tier 2 National Championships, taking the trophy home to SW18.
The competition was put on hold back in March and it is only recently that competitive hockey matches have been able to resume.
First, the team played a closely fought semi-finals against local rivals Woking, winning 1-4 on Thursday, September 3.
And on Sunday September 6, they finally made it to Nottingham, to play in the national finals.
With minimal spectators at their game against Hampton, it was a a tough match to begin with, as Spencer falling behind at half time.
Determined to turn it around their fitness, speed and ambition proved invaluable with a final score of 2-4.
Goals scored by Archie Taylor, Will Gurney Champion and Luke Cunningham, captain (all from Dulwich College) pushed them forward whilst goalkeeper Sam Kelly (Whitgift) and the solid defence kept the opposition at bay.
