Fire fighters have been rushed to the scene of a fire at a residential property in Surbiton which broke out earlier today (Monday, September 28).

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said they had sent a full four fire engines with some 25 fire fighters to the scene of the blaze on Ferguson Avenue after they were called.

"Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters have been called to reports of a fire on Ferguson Avenue in #Surbiton.

"More information to follow," a spokesperson said.

In a later update, LFB said an additional two fire engines and 15 fire fighters were sent to the scene of the fire, which continues at present with "the ground and first floors of the semi-detached house" already alight. 

"Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters have been called to a fire at a house on Ferguson Avenue in Surbiton.

"A small area of the ground and first floors of the semi-detached house are alight.

"The Brigade was called at 1405. Fire crews from Kingston, Twickenham and Surbiton are at the scene.

"The cause of the fire is not known at this stage."
