A permanent Covid-19 testing centre will come to Wandsworth, according to Putney MP, Fleur Anderson.

The Labour MP tweeted today (October 15) that a testing site has been agreed upon, though she did not disclose any details of when and where it will open.

Currently, there is a pop-up centre at Wandsworth Town Hall, offering tests every three days throughout October.

However, there are reports of local residents and schools struggling to access tests.

Speaking to the Wandsworth Times, Ms Anderson said:

"I was told that a site was authorised today and I welcome this. We’ve only had a pop-up temporary site for the whole of Wandsworth for too long. Roehampton is one of only three universities in the country that doesn’t have a testing site on or near campus.

"Too many parents have contacted me to say that children are missing school because they can’t get a test."

She said she is awaiting further details of the location and date the centre will open.

"I'm glad the Government has listened to the campaign by the three Wandsworth MPs. As we face going into more restrictions, it will be reassuring, and life-saving, to know that we can get a test nearby if we need it," the Labour MP added.

Tooting MP Rosena Allin-Khan and Battersea MP Marsha de Cordova were also involved in the campaign for a permanent test site in Wandsworth.
