Parents have spoken out after a group of ‘pumpkin smashers’ destroyed their children’s Halloween creations over the weekend.
Houses in Balham were targeted by a group of people who ruined decorations left on doorsteps.
Joe Wicks, who lives in the Nightingale Triangle – Balham High Road, Ravenslea Road and Nightingale Lane – said his six-year-old son’s pumpkin was hit.
“I walked outside my house on Saturday morning and the road looked like something from a horror movie with bits of smashed pumpkin everywhere.
“My son was upset so we went to Sainsbury’s and Waitrose this morning to buy a new one, but they were all sold out.
“Waitrose only had watermelons on Saturday morning, but my son didn’t want a watermelon to carve, he only wanted a pumpkin. We reluctantly went back home empty-handed.
His door cam captured a group of teenagers at 4 am which he believes is responsible.
Many other households in the area reported similar incidents, suggesting it had become a tradition each year.
“We are on Chestnut grove and outs got smashed last night. My three-year-old daughter was in floods of tears this morning. So cruel to do this one especially when it’s the one bit of fun the kids can have at the moment,” said Kate John.
