A HIGH STREET has been transported back in time as it plays host to the cast of a new film.
People in Saltdean could have been forgiven for thinking they had woken up 30 years in the past – and in an entirely different town.
The crew behind the new Amazon Studios film My Policeman had transformed Longridge Avenue, Saltdean to look like Peacehaven high street from back in the mid-1990s.
Brand new signs were put up to replace existing shopfronts, and in some cases, stock was even moved in to make the set look authentic.
Some of the new shops made specifically for the movie include a chemist, Shanley’s Food and Wine and Peacehaven Carpet Warehouse.

But, of course, no 1990s high-street would be complete without the creation of a video rental shop, so Videohaven at Peacehaven Mini Mart has been created for the purpose.
A brand-new café has also been made for the film, with a price board displaying sandwiches at 90s prices.
It is understood that the set will be in place for just one day and stars such as Rupert Everett, Linus Roache and Line of Duty actress Gina Mckee are expected to be filming at the location.
Saltdean is the latest place to host the cast of My Policeman, which stars popstar Harry Styles.
My Policeman is set largely in Brighton and Hove, but locations in Worthing and Newhaven have also been used for filming.
My Policeman is based on Brighton Bethan Roberts’s 2012 novel of the same name.
Harry Styles will play Tom, the police officer of the title.
The story takes place in the late 1990s when the arrival of Patrick, an elderly invalid, triggers an exploration of events from 40 years previous – Tom and Patrick’s relationship at a time when being gay was illegal.
Award-winning theatre director Michael Grandage is shooting a screenplay by Oscar-winner Ron Nyswaner, who penned 1993 legal drama Philadelphia.
It has not yet been confirmed when the film will be released, but it is understood to hit the big screen next year.
Harry Styles made his acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s 2017 war film Dunkirk and will star in Olivia Wilde’s psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling.
