Five people have been arrested after a chaotic brawl broke out in Clapham Junction Asda, involving someone dressed as Spider-man.

Footage of a group fighting on the floor among pallets inside the Lavender Hill superstore last night began circulating on social media.

Onlookers can be heard shouting at the attackers, with one woman calling out, “oh my God!”.

A clip shows a brawl in the warehouse area of the shop involving Asda employees and several people wearing costumes.

Police said six people were injured in the incident.

Both men and women are seen exchanging blows as they writhe around in a violent bundle.

A man in a wheelchair is pulled away as he continues to punch someone on the ground below, while someone in yellow beats an opponent with an item in their hand.

The man wearing the Spider-man costume is then filmed aggressively clubbing someone with a crutch, who backs away.

A shocked crowd watches on, as desperate screams are heard.

The person who captured the footage said: "Asda Clapham Junction.

“Five people have been arrested and remain in custody.

“Six people were injured. Enquiries are ongoing and we ask anyone with footage to share it with police.”

A spokesperson for Asda said: "We are aware of an incident which occurred at our Clapham Junction store late last night.

"We do not tolerate any form of violence or abuse towards colleague or customers and we are working closely with the police in their enquiries."

The GMB union said its members were among those attacked, and representatives were present at the store on Friday to offer support.

Senior organiser Mark Wilkinson said: “GMB cannot condemn strongly enough the actions of these people and we thank the police for their swift action in arriving to help protect our members from further harm.

“The video footage is absolutely horrifying and we are offering whatever support is necessary to any member who were affected during the incident.”

He added: “Sadly, GMB is all too aware that whilst Clapham Junction is an extreme example, attacks on retail workers are on the increase. Parliament needs to act now to toughen the law.”
