Four slip roads leading onto the M25 have been blocked by environmental activists calling on the Government to insulate British homes.

Insulate Britain, a newly formed group, has positioned protestors holding banners at various entry points to the major motorway, including Junction 3 in Swanley, causing significant delays.

The group says they will continue to cause disruption to the public until the government makes a meaningful commitment to insulate Britain’s 29 million “leaky homes”, which it describes as “some of the oldest and most energy inefficient in Europe.”

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Motorists attempting to join the M25 from Swanley, at Junction 3, may encounter delays due to an obstruction caused by a group of people.

“Our officers are at the scene and engaging with those involved. Traffic is moving and being diverted to join the M25 at Junction 4.”

National Highways said there was also disruption at  Junction 6 for Godstone in Surrey, Junction 14 for Heathrow Terminal 5, Junction 20 for Kings Langley in Hertfordshire, and Junction 31 for Purfleet in Essex

Essex Police arrested 11 protestors near to Junction 31 on suspicion of highways obstruction.

The force received a call shortly before 8.15am, shutting the road to resolve the situation.

Chief Inspector Paul Austin said: “This incident caused significant disruption and our officers worked to resolve it as quickly and safely as possible.

“I want to thank the drivers affected for their patience and understanding.”

Surrey Police said a number of protesters had been arrested at the demonstrations at Junctions 6 and 14.
