Snow could hit London this weekend as wind, rain and weather warnings across the UK herald the arrival of winter.

The Met Office predict wintry showers in London on Saturday (November 27) which could result in snow amid expected temperatures as low as minus 2 degrees Celsius.

The national weather service as such issued a yellow weather warning for much of southern England ahead of the weekend, conceding there was a "small" chance of snow and advising people to take precautions when travelling.

"Whilst most areas will see spells of rain there is a small chance of this turning to snow on Saturday morning leading to some disruption," the Met Office said. "There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel. There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off... There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected."

Weather warnings further north turned amber and red, with Storm Arwen threatened high winds and rain that could threaten life, the Met Office said.

The weather in London could meanwhile further disrupt journeys amid ongoing strike action by London Underground workers on the Victoria, Central, Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines who have walked out over changes to the agreement with tube drivers on Night Tube services.
