A man has been charged after several assaults in Dartford.

James Philpott, 31, was charged in connection with three incidents which took place on Sunday, July 11, 2021.

The man from High Street, Gillingham, was charged with attempted robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating and racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police were called to reports of a man who was assaulted in Dartford Road at around 2.20pm on July 11, 2021.

A short time later another man was also assaulted in West Hill, according to the police.

An elderly man was also reportedly targeted in an attempted robbery on Suffolk Road at around 3pm.

Philpott was arrested following an investigation which included a CCTV appeal.

The Gillingham man was bailed upon charge and is due to appear before Medway Magistrates Court.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “An investigation into several assaults in Dartford has resulted in a man being charged with offences.

“James Philpott, 31, of High Street, Gillingham, has been charged with attempted robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating and racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“Mr Philpott has been charged in connection with three incidents which happened on Sunday 11 July 2021 in Dartford.

“At around 2.20pm a man was assaulted in Dartford Road.

“A short time later another man was assaulted in West Hill and an elderly man was reported to have been targeted in an attempted robbery in Suffolk Road at around 3pm.

“Following an investigation, including issuing a CCTV appeal, Mr Philpott was arrested.

“He was bailed upon charge and is due to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 10 February 2022.”
