A man has been taken to hospital after an indoor firework caused a blaze at a club in Clapham Common.

The fire broke out at the club in Clapham Common South Side just before 12.15am on Sunday.

Three men and a woman were treated on scene for smoke inhalation and a further man was taken to hospital.

Around 60 people left the building before firefighters arrived.

Part of the ground floor of the two-storey club was damaged.

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters were sent to the scene after 999 officers took 10 calls to the fire.

The fire was under control by 1.19am.

Fire crews from Clapham, Brixton, Battersea and Tooting fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and involved an indoor firework.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “On arrival crews were faced with smoke logging and a developing fire at the rear of the building.

“There were road closures in place between Clapham Park Road and Cavendish Road whilst crews worked to make the scene safe.

"Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a nightclub on Clapham Common South Side.

"Part of the ground floor of a two-storey nightclub was damaged by fire. Around 60 people left the building before the Brigade arrived.

"Three men and a woman were treated on scene after suffering from smoke inhalation and a further man was taken to hospital.

"The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 10 calls to the fire.

"The Brigade was called at 0013 and the fire was under control by 0119.

"Fire crews from Clapham, Brixton, Battersea and Tooting fire stations attended the scene.

"The fire is believed to have been accidental and involved an indoor firework."
