A WOMAN is fighting for her life and a man is also in hospital after a house fire in Brixton.  

The fire broke out in Ramillies Close just before 12.10pm on October 2.  

Police, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade were called to the scene.  

A woman, 75, and a man, 72, were taken to hospital following the blaze.  

Officers say the woman is in a life-threatening condition.  

Her next of kin have been informed.  

The man’s condition has been assessed as not life-threatening.  

Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters tackled the blaze.   

A part of the first floor and the roof of a mid-terraced house were damaged by the fire.  

The brigade's 999 control officers took 20 calls to the blaze.  

The fire was under control just before 2.50pm.   

Fire crews from Clapham, Brixton, Wandsworth, and West Norwood fire stations attended the scene. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade. 

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “We were called at 12:08hrs on Sunday, 2 October after a fire was reported at a residential property on Ramilles Close, SW2. 

“Police, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended the scene and 75-year-old woman was taken to hospital where remains in a life-threatening condition.  

“Her next of kin have been informed. 

“A 72-year-old man was also taken to hospital and his injuries have been assessed as not life-threatening.   

“A joint enquiry with police and LFB will continue into the cause of the fire.” 

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to a house fire on Ramillies Close in Brixton.  

“Part of the first floor and roof of a mid-terraced house were damaged by the fire.  

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from the first floor. 

“She was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews suffering smoke inhalation.  

“A man left the property and was also taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation.  

“The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 20 calls to the blaze. 

“The Brigade was called at 1208 and the fire was under control by 1449.  

“Fire crews from Clapham, Brixton, Wandsworth and West Norwood fire stations were at the scene. 

“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.”
