A WOMAN has died three days later after a house fire in Brixton. 

The fire broke out in Ramillies Close just before 12.10pm on October 2.   

Officers, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade were called to the scene. 

A woman, 75, and a man, 72, suffering from smoke inhalation were taken to hospital. 

The woman died on October 5 and the man’s condition was assessed as not life-threatening.  

Her next of kin have been informed.

Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters tackled the blaze.    

A part of the first floor and the roof of a mid-terraced house were damaged by the fire.   

The brigade's 999 control officers took 20 calls to the blaze.   

The fire was under control just before 2.50pm.    

Fire crews from Clapham, Brixton, Wandsworth, and West Norwood fire stations attended the scene.  

The cause of the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 12:08hrs on Sunday, 2 October after a fire was reported at a residential property on Ramilles Close, SW2.

“Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended the scene and 75-year-old woman was taken to hospital – she sadly died there on 5 October. Her next of kin have been informed.

“A 72-year-old man was also taken to hospital and his injuries have been assessed as not life-threatening.  

“At this time, the fire is not being treated as suspicious.”

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to a house fire on Ramillies Close in Brixton.  

“Part of the first floor and roof of a mid-terraced house were damaged by the fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from the first floor.  

“She was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews suffering smoke inhalation.  

“Sadly, she later died in hospital. 

“A man left the property and was also taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation. 

“The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 20 calls to the blaze. 

“The Brigade was called at 1208 and the fire was under control by 1449.  

“Fire crews from Clapham, Brixton, Wandsworth, and West Norwood fire stations were at the scene. 

“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.”
