London Fire Brigade has issued a statement after a body was found in a burning car in Clapham.
Police and firefighters were called to Clarence Avenue at 2.45am yesterday (December 27).
After the fire was extinguished, the body of a person was found inside the car.
They were pronounced dead at the scene and police are in the process of identifying the person.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said the death is being treated as unexpected and further enquiries are taking place to establish the circumstances.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Sadly, a person has died after a car fire on Clarence Avenue in Clapham.
“A car was destroyed by fire. A person inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The brigade was called at 2.45am and the incident was over for firefighters by 3.24am.
“Fire crews from Brixton and Clapham fire stations attended the scene."
