The police are now offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information leading to the arrest of an escaped terror suspect who may have recently been sighted near Wandsworth Roundabout.

Former soldier Daniel Abed Khalife remains at large following his escape from Wandsworth Prison on Wednesday morning.

Detectives are now investigating a sighting of Khalife near Wandsworth Roundabout, and have received information from a member of the public who claimed to have seen him walking away from a BidFood van at the top of Trinity Road.

More than 150 counter-terrorism officers and staff are involved in the search, supported by colleagues from the Met and other police forces.

Khalife, 21, was declared missing at 7.50am on September 6, and the police tracked down the prison van he was believed to have used to escape.

Officers stopped the van in Upper Richmond Road at 8.37am and discovered strapping on the underside of the vehicle.

Police suspect that Khalife was hiding beneath the van and used the strapping to aid his escape.

Officers claim that Khalife does not currently pose a threat to the wider public but is advising that people should not approach him if seen and to call 999 immediately.

Commander Dominic Murphy, who leads the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, has expressed gratitude for the public's response to the appeal for information.

Over 100 calls have been received so far.

Murphy said that the sighting near Wandsworth Roundabout could be "very significant" and encouraged the public to continue contacting the police with any information that may be helpful.

The Met has also opened its UK Image Appeal website, allowing people to submit relevant imagery and video directly to the investigation team.

To aid in the search for Khalife, CCTV footage of the van he is believed to have escaped on, as well as a still image of the kind of clothing he would have worn, has been released.

The van's route after leaving Wandsworth Prison has now been released.

After reaching Wandsworth Roundabout, the van turned onto Swandon Way and remained on the road until turning onto Fairfield Street.

As the operation to find Khalife continues, officers are focusing their efforts within London but the Met is also collaborating with police forces across the country.

Searches were carried out in Richmond Park overnight and the nationwide alert for Khalife has led to increased security at UK ports and borders.

Police are asking that anyone who believes they have seen Daniel Abed Khalife or has information on his whereabouts contacts them immediately.

The £20,000 reward being offered for information leading directly to his arrest is a clear incentive for the public to assist in the search.

Commander Dominic Murphy, who leads the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “This remains a fast-paced and dynamic investigation, but I want the public to know that a large number of officers are working extremely hard to locate Khalife.

“We have now received more than 100 calls from the public, and we thank everyone who has contacted us with information.

“The sighting near Wandsworth Roundabout could be very significant, and this is one of many useful lines of enquiry that officers are perusing.

“We continue to urge the public to contact us straight away if they think they have seen Khalife or have information on his whereabouts.

“We will continue to work closely with all our colleagues in police services across the country and other partners to trace Khalife and bring him back into custody.”
