A food stall has been destroyed following a fire in Brixton today.

Emergency services were called to Brixton Road this morning (February 8) at around 10:10am.

A fire destroyed a food stall on Brixton Road near the O2 Academy in Brixton, with one man being taken to hospital with hand and facial injuries.

A road closure was put in place whilst emergency services were at the scene.

London Fire Brigade has confirmed that a gas cylinder which was not involved in the fire was removed as a “precaution.”

The fire was extinguished at 11:05am, under an hour after crews first arrived, and was attended by fire crews from Clapham and Peckham fire stations.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters tackled a fire on Brixton Road, SW9 this morning. A food stall was destroyed by fire.

“One man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

“A gas cylinder which was not involved in the fire was removed as a precaution as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

“A road closure was put in place whilst the incident was ongoing.

“The Brigade's 999 Control Officers received six calls about the fire.

“The Brigade was called at 1009 and the fire was extinguished by 1105.

“Two fire engines from Clapham and Peckham fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “Road closures were put in place temporarily this morning after a food truck caught fire in Brixton Road at around 10:10hrs.

“One man sustained hand and facial injuries and went to hospital.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said:
“We were called at 10.09am on Thursday 8 February to reports of an incident on Brixton Road, SW9.

“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, a paramedic on a motorcycle and an incident response officer.

“Our first medic arrived on scene in five minutes.

“We treated a man for burns and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
