Linden Lodge School is to hold a “turning of the first sod” ceremony to celebrate the building of its new performing arts and movement development centre.

The school, in Princes Way, became one of the 12 special schools in the country to be rated “outstanding” by Ofsted recently.

It was also awarded specialist school status for sensory and physical needs.

The school approached the Apogee Corporation, an office suppliers based in Wimbledon, which agreed to be a lead sponsor on new facilities.

Now teachers are appealing to raise a further £170,000 for specialist equipment so that the new building, which will be named the Apogee Centre, can be fully accessible to pupils with complex special educational needs.

A spokesman said: “This is a remarkable project and the Apogee Corporation and their continued support has helped the school on its way.”
