A vigil was held on Saturday to mark two years since a mentally ill man from Balham died in police custody.

Family and friends of Sean Rigg gathered outside Brixton Police Station to remember the 40-year-old musician.

Mr Rigg, who had schizophrenia, was arrested in 2008 during a psychotic episode and taken to Brixton police station.

He died hours later, but the reasons for his death have not yet been made public.

Findings from an IPCC investigation are expected to be released before an inquest takes place in 2012.

The Metropolitan Police said it remains committed to the investigation.

Family solicitor Anna Mazzola said: “It is devastating for the family that they should have to wait until 2012 for a full inquest and deeply worrying that until that time the policies and failings which led to Sean’s death will remain unremedied.”
