The West Putney Dads' Football League reached an exciting climax at a sun-baked Barn Elms on Sunday, with Hotham School PTA narrowly claiming the title on goal difference.

Fathers from Hotham, St Mary's, All Saints' and Our Lady of Victories primary schools all took part in the 2012 renewal of the festival of friendship, frivolity and football.

Hotham's final-day 5-1 win over reigning champions OLV came courtesy of two clinical early Sean Held strikes, a Dan Baglietto brace and a crisp 20-yard finish from Dutch forward Chris Heeringa.

Hotham, All Saints' and OLV all finished level on six points, so Heeringa's late volley proved decisive and gave captain Claudio Nazareno the opportunity to lift the trophy on his farewell appearance.

Hotham goalkeeper Michael Grant said: “It was nice to win, but the whole season was an unqualified success and the community was the real winner. “ “The whole event is a chance for fathers and their families, at all four schools, to socialise and share their common love of football. I'd like to thank all the organisers and players for their efforts.”
