Sainsbury’s Balham customers will get the chance to see the Paralympic Torch on Wednesday September 5.

The London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay has made its way from Stoke Mandeville to London and now Balham residents have the opportunity of seeing the Torch up-close.

The Paralympic Torch Experience will see the Torch travel to 40 Sainsbury’s stores across the country in just over a week, following a successful tour around the country ahead of the Paralympic Games.

The Torch’s epic journey began at Sainsbury’s Edenthorpe on Friday August 31 and will end at the retailer’s Letchworth store on Sunday September 9.

The Torch is one of 620 Torches used in the 24 hour Relay which took place from Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury, the home of the Paralympic Movement, to the Olympic Park in Stratford, London.

The Torch will be at the store between 2pm to 6pm. Sainsbury’s is the first ever sole sponsor of the Paralympic Games, which takes place from August 29 to September 9, and the only retailer giving people across the UK the chance to see the Torch up close and personal in-store.

Sainsbury’s Balham Manager Wayne Vidler added: “We’ve really enjoyed playing our part in raising awareness of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. For our customers, it’s a once in a lifetime chance for them to see the Torch and feel the buzz of the Paralympic Games in the host city”.
