A new detective-drama series is coming to ITV soon, which stars Outlander alum Laura Donnelly.
The Dark is an adaptation of a novel by GR Halliday, titled From the Shadows, which is the first of three books to follow the character of detective Monica Kennedy (Donnelly).
A synopsis for the show reads: "When the body of a young man is found eerily staged in the idyllic Scottish wilderness, detective Monica Kennedy fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike the heart of a rural community.
"As paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and the locals start to realise that there is a serial killer hidden amongst them."
Matt Hartley led scripting on the adaptation, along with co-writers Lena Rae and Nessah Muthy.
Meanwhile, Gilles Bannier served as lead director.
Discussing the show ahead of its airing, Donnelly said: "While it has all the suspense and thrills of a detective-serial killer drama, it was so character-based.
"The most important elements seemed to be the relationships between the characters.
“I was drawn to Monica because she was carrying so much in terms of her past, her family and the way she approaches her work."

When will The Dark be on TV?
The first episode of The Dark will air at 9pm on ITV1 on Sunday, July 12, with the second episode following in the same timeslot a day later on Monday, July 13.
After that, the third episode is scheduled for 9pm on Monday, July 20.
Airing times for the remaining three episodes have not been revealed yet.
Episodes will be available to watch on ITVX also.
