Officers Steve Arnott, played by Martin Compston, Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure), and Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), are assigned their most sensitive case so far.
Their investigation centres on Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, a charismatic officer who has won plaudits for a string of takedowns of organised crime, who is accused of abusing his position of trust to act as a sexual predator.
The story raises the question of whether Gough's case is a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows.
Line of Duty series 7 confirmed cast so far
Compston, McClure, and Dunbar return to lead the cast, with Robert Carlyle joining as the guest lead for the series.
Carlyle will portray Detective Constable Shaun Massie, a Specialist Rifle Officer with the Tactical Operations Unit 7 (TO-7).
His character is described as a "gruff loner" whose typically detached demeanour shifts dramatically when his commanding officer, DI Gough, comes under investigation.
DI Gough will be played by Tom Weston-Jones.
New cast members include Laura Aikman, Levi Brown, and Amy Leigh Hickman, who will appear as DCs Paula Beckman, Luke Tobin, and Nira Rashid, respectively.
Meanwhile, returning actors include Mark Bonnar as former Deputy Chief Constable Mike Dryden, Owen Teale as Chief Constable Philip Osborne, Perry Fitzpatrick as DS Chris Lomax, and Christina Chong as DI Nicky Rogerson.
