Saturday October 20 sees Harlequin Ladies take on fierce rivals Saracens at The Stoop in a replay of last season’s Tyrrell’s 15 Women’s Premiership decider.

That day it was the north of London celebrating as the red and blacks ran out 24-20 winners, leaving Quins’ fly half Ellie Green desperately looking to go one better this time around.

With the league improving and both sides adding strength to their squad, Green admits they have yet to hit top gear as a team but they are on course.

“The main goal is to win it (the league),” said Green.

“We fell short last year, but this year it’s about being consistent over the whole year and to top it off at the end.

“The best is yet to come and we are still growing.

“We’ve got a lot of new players and systems to get used to so we haven’t had the performances we should’ve done until now but we’re trying to get together as a team and to know what works for us.”

The game will be Quins Ladies’ second game at The Stoop this season following their 26-26 draw with Bristol Bears in which Green starred on September 15. Playing at the Stoop raises the players game’s according to Green.

“We love playing at the Stoop, it’s a great opportunity to help grow the women’s game and to showcase what we can do as well as the men. The added pressure, but a good pressure, makes us perform better and hopefully get a win in front of our home crowd.”

Quins currently sit fifth in the league and despite next weekend’s grudge match against pacesetters Saracens, Green isn’t taking any game for granted including this weekend’s game at basement side Worcester Valkyries.

“The league has massively improved on last season, every team has a chance to win it, and every team is a threat to everyone which is great to continue the development of the women’s game.

“Quins are contributing to that development having us play at The Stoop. It’s such a good family environment and we’re grateful to have the support that Quins give us.”

Green was one of six Quins recently called in to England’s 36 women squad ahead of their internationals in November. Despite admitting it was a step up in quality the opportunity was a learning curve she will surely take in to club form.

“It was an amazing experience and a massive step up, but I just went and took in as much as I could to help my development, listening to all the people giving me advice.
