Day 14 of your Crystal Palace Calendar has us looking at the impact of Jordan Ayew.

The man who arrived from relegated Swansea City with little fan-fare and little promise.

Seen as a ‘back-up’ striker to Christian Benteke and an alternative to Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend, little was expected from the Ghanaian.

That is precisely what Roy Hodgson got.

READ: Who have Palace been linked to in January?

Failing to set the Premier League alight during his time at Aston Villa and Swansea, both of which were relegated, he has continued in the same form for the Eagles.

Injury to Benteke thrust Ayew in to the starting line-up earlier this season,in seven starts and three outings from the bench he has failed to find the net and only managed one assist. A return even the biggest pessimist wouldn’t of predicted.

READ: Palace's figure of frustration

Hodgson lost faith in the striker and opted to put the striker on the bench favouring Zaha and Townsend in a front two.

The move was seen as a lack of confidence in Ayew who has only come in to the side from the bench or when either Zaha or Townsend are injured, or suspended.

In recent matches Hodgson has opted to introduce Jeffrey Schlupp in an attacking role when in need for a goal, further throwing doubt on the long-term future of the 27-year-old.

The biggest compliment one can give Ayew is that it's made Palace fans appreciate the role Benteke played, even when he was out of form.

Palace have been linked with a number of players in the January transfer window and in particular in the striker department. These rumours and with Benteke and Connor Wickam soon to return from injury, Ayew’s time may be over before he really got going.
