Harlequins have taken internal action against Dave Ward following his yellow card incident in the Big Game 11 victory over Wasps.

Hooker Ward was shown a yellow card on nine minutes for a stamp on flanker Thomas Young's ankle in the 20-13 victory in a sell-out Twickenham Stadium.

In a club statement Quins Head of Rugby Paul Gustard has said the club have given Ward a one game suspension and publicly apologised for his behaviour.

"We do not coach, condone or accept foul play and on behalf of the team and the Club, I apologise to Thomas (Young), Dai (Young), and Wasps for the incident."

Another incident which clouded the tightly fought victory was an alleged spitting incident again involving Ward.

The hooker apologised for the stamp but fiercely denied the spitting allegations.

"I would like to make clear that I did not spit on another player during the match yesterday," said Ward.

"Regardless of what the television footage looks like I know that I have never spat on a player in all my career and will never do so."
