Kate Middleton took to the court with south London tennis star Emma Raducanu in Roehampton on Friday (September 24) at the National Tennis Centre.

The pair played tennis with each other at an event organised by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Youth programme, which fell just days after Raducanu's stunning triumph at the US Open in New York earlier this month.

The teenage tennis star, who went to school in Orpington, and Duchess of Cambridge were joined by fellow tennis stars Joe Salisbury and wheelchair doubles pair Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid.

"Her forehand was incredible," Raducanu told the Evening Standard. "I was very impressed. It was a lot of fun to play tennis with the duchess."

Raducanu shot to fame this summer after making her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon aged just 18.

Earlier this month she became Britain's first female champion of a Tennis major since Virginia Wade in 1977 when she bested fellow teenager, Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez 6-4, 6-3.

Raducanu's US Open win was also a record-breaking achievement: She was the first ever qualifier (forced to play matches ahead of the main draw) to win a Grand Slam Final, and did so without dropping a single set.

Labour Councillors in Bromley have since requested a special meeting of the south east London council in a bid to grant the tennis star the Freedom of the Borough of Bromley in recognition of her achievements.

As news of her match with the Duchess circulated on Friday, so too did information that Raducanu had departed company with her former coach Andrew Richardson who helped guide her to success in New York.
