Andros Townsend was delighted to contribute in Crystal Palace’s emphatic victory over Stoke City after enduring a “disappointing” start to life at Selhurst Park.
The England international signed a five-year deal with Palace in July after the South Londoners triggered his £13m buy-out clause.
Townsend, 25, admitted he was far from happy with his early appearances for Alan Pardew’s side.
However, the energetic winger opened his account for Palace in the 4-1 win against Stoke and also notched up an assist.
“I was brought to this club to contribute with goals and assists,” Townsend said.
“I've been a little disappointed so far this season that I haven't been able to do that, but to get a goal and an assist in one game, I'm delighted with that.
“Hopefully I can keep that going in the next few games. Wilf [Zaha] got his goal and assist last game, this was my turn.”
Palace lost their first two games of the season but have since claimed seven points out of a possible nine.
The Eagles started superbly against bottom-placed Stoke and found themselves 2-0 up inside 12 minutes through goals from defenders James Tomkins and Scott Dann.
James McArthur’s deflected strike put the contest to bed before Townsend cut inside from the right to score a trademark goal.
The only blemish for Pardew’s side was a late consolation goal for Austria international Marko Arnautovic.
Townsend, who has made 11 international appearances since 2013, told the official Crystal Palace website: “It was a great day all round.
“We knew if we started quickly, like we did against Middlesbrough, we'd get some early goals - and it turned out that way. It turned out to be a great afternoon for us.”
