Eyebrows were raised when Sergi Canos was withdrawn shortly after the hour at Millwall.

The former Liverpool and Norwich man was a nuisance down the flank, unlucky even not to get on the score sheet after seeing his 20-yard effort crash off the bar late in the first half.

Many regarded the attacking full back as the Bees best threat in their 1-1 draw at The Den, leaving questions as to why Thomas Frank hooked the Spaniard for centre back Luka Racic to make his debut.

“I think he did well going forward,” said Frank of Canos.

“You could see in the first 15 minutes of the second half they got a lot of crosses in from that side, three or four, so I didn’t think we could keep that up.

“I thought they always wanted to put the diagonal in across to Mads Bech (Sorensen), so we put another centre back in and put him as a left back so we could control set pieces better.”

Favoured Position

Brentford’s rear-guard was under scrutiny for the best part of an hour after Henrik Dalsgaard’s dismissal for bringing down Ben Thompson when through on goal, but Canos remained a constant outlet going forward for the Bees.

Asked where Frank sees the talented 22-year-old playing having played a number of positions for the west London outfit since his arrival two years ago, the manager said:

“I see him in an attacking position.

“He can play winger, he can play the number ten position in a 3-4-3, but he shows some interesting skills going forward as a wing back, which gives us an extra something going forward.”
