Carshalton Athletic can still dream of Wembley as the club progressed in the FA Cup last weekend, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

The Robins travelled to Harrow Borough on Saturday and survived the debatable second-half dismissal of Daniel Pappoe as Christie Pattisson’s 25th minute strike proved the difference between the two sides.

The reward for getting past their opponents is a third qualifying round tie against Lowestoft Town to be played early next month.

And player/manager Peter Adeniyi was pleased with his players’ response after losing heavily in the league just the week before.

“We remained upbeat during the lead-up to the cup game as the loss against Hornchurch was unacceptable but, while we can’t change the past, we’ve now put that right against Harrow,” said Adeniyi.

“The minimum the fans demand is passion and hard work. I felt we delivered that but we must continue to do so.“

Carshalton began strongly against Harrow and the Robins hit the woodwork three times, through Ricky Korboa twice and captain Paris Hamilton-Downes, before Pattisson’s third goal of the season broke the deadlock.

The controversial dismissal of Pappoe came five minutes after the break – he and Anthony O’Connor came together on a long ball and, as the forward threw himself to the floor, the referee blew for a foul before pulling out a straight red.

That spurred Harrow onto the front foot but Carshalton defended doggedly and keeper Kleton Perntreou made two good saves when the hosts did pierce the Robins backline.

“I can see why the ref maybe thought it was a foul but a red card seemed very harsh,” Adeniyi said when asked about the sending off.

“Paps didn’t move his arm towards the guy, there was no intent in it for me. We’ll have to look at it on the video again.”

Carshalton’s trip to Lowestoft, whom currently play in the Southern Premier Central, is now the third straight away game for the club in the competition.

But, before that, the Robins are back to Isthmian Premier League business as they host Margate on Saturday 28th September (kick-off 3pm).
