Ollie Watkins revealed that he himself is shocked by his run of form this season but still expects more for himself as he chases down the Golden Boot.

Watkins scored his 18th goal of the season in The Bee's 3-1 victory over local rivals QPR on Saturday putting him level with Aleksandar Mitrovicas the Championship's top scorer.

Following the departure of Neal Maupay to Brighton Watkins was converted from a right-winger to a centre forward by Thomas Frank for this season and the gamble has paid off.

Watkins said:  “I had a run of games there [striker] at Exeter, but here I feel like I am playing with better players and playing in a dynamic team which plays to my strengths and have a connection with the lads.

“It is just about getting in the box really. That is where you score goals. I think I could have had a few more today but I will take being the joint top scorer in the league.

“I think I should have done better with the header, and I was unlucky with the volley – it just went wide but I am getting chances and I am loving it at the moment.

Despite this purple patch Watkins shows the desire of a tradiontal center-forward as he believes he should be above Mitrovic in the charts rather than level.

"I have surprised myself a little bit scoring this many goals but the only thing I could be critical about is that I could be on 20 right now so I gotta keep going.

“There is no secret. We just work hard on the training pitch, practice every day and it is all coming together.

“We are taking it game by game and seeing what happens."
