James Tomkins has urged Wilfried Zaha to stay at Crystal Palace next season.

Zaha, who won the club’s Player of the Year award for a second successive year, is attracting interest from Tottenham and Arsenal after an impressive campaign.

The former Manchester United winger scored an early goal in Palace’s 4-0 win over Hull on Sunday, which secured their Premier League status.

Eagles defender Tomkins told News Shopper: “For Wilf [Zaha] to punish Hull like that was massive for us. He’s been brilliant all season and he’s deserved his Player of the Year award.

“It’s between himself and the people upstairs in regards to his contract. I’m sure he’s got three or four years left.

“I know he’s a big favourite here, and rightly so. Hopefully we can keep him because he can change games.”

Christian Benteke, Luka Milivojevic and Patrick van Aanholt added to Zaha’s third-minute strike to condemn Hull to the Championship.

Zaha signed a new contract last summer and has scored seven and assisted nine goals in a relegation-threatened season for Palace. His stunning form is set to be rewarded with a new deal worth around £120k-a-week.

The Ivory Coast international’s early season form was maintained by Sam Allardyce, who replaced Alan Pardew in December.

And Tomkins, who worked with Allardyce at West Ham, praised the former England boss for pulling off another rescue mission. The Eagles picked up crucial wins over Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea on their way to safety.

He added: “I can’t speak highly enough of the gaffer. He didn't find it easy at the start, we were losing games but managed to turn it around.

“People think if we didn't get those wins against the big teams then we wouldn't be in the situation that we’re currently in, and we would've been fighting until the end.

“Those games were massive for us against the big teams. The manager has to take massive credit, but so do us players.”
