Mayor Boris Johnson is seeking Londoners’ views on his proposal to change planning rules to allow more car parking when new homes and offices are built.

The existing safeguards have been put in place to prevent communities in outer London being dominated by cars. With Transport for London already predicting big increases in vehicle traffic in the coming decades, the Mayor’s move to erode these standards threatens to unleash traffic hell in the outer London boroughs.

Londoners living away from the city centre desperately need better transport links and this means new rail lines and tram schemes, better bus services BoJo wants more parking Hard hat: Mayor Boris Johnson is keen on more car parking and proper cycle routes.

Promoting car travel will only lead to more pollution which will poison our air and eventually bring gridlock. It is not the way forward. I will keep pressure on the Mayor to expand the bus network and reduce car use in outer London. I urge Londoners to respond to the consultation making their views known before June 22.
