I am writing in response to the letter entitled 'Life is Grim for Wandsworth's High Rise Residents'.
Wandsworth Council has not closed down "the few remaining adventure playgrounds" as your correspondent states.
The council has recently redesigned and refurbished the Adventure Playground in Battersea Park, to excellent reviews from the children I have spoken to.
The Adventure Playground in York Gardens has had a £150,000 refurbishment and has new equipment.
The Kimber Road playground has undergone a £170,000 transformation into a new skateboarding venue due to open soon.
Quite contrary to the tone of the letter, Wandsworth makes excellent and varied provision of play facilities for children of all ages and my own children (5 and 2) visit and enjoy Wandsworth's playgrounds almost every day.
I think it is important and productive to direct constructive criticism at the Council but in this area the Council genuinely provides great facilities which compare very favourably with those of neighbouring boroughs.
Councillor Kim Caddy; Wandsworth Council (Southfields ward, Conservative)
